We use the London Benchmark Group (LBG) model for social impact to assess the positive impact achieved by our community engagement efforts in 2022.
Positive Impact Achieved
1.River Adoption Program: Received the High Distinction Award from the Department of Environmental Protection for Four Consecutive Years
ECIC Plant II actively engages in social welfare activities to bring about a positive impact on the local community. In 2018, the plant participated in the River Adoption Program of the Department of Environmental Protection, adopting and committing to the preservation of the Daku River. In addition to daily patrols and monthly reports, we also organize educational activities such as river cleanups, environmental awareness events and ecological tours. Through engaging initiatives like quizzes with rewards, we aim to foster a greater understanding of river ecosystems among local communities and students. These efforts have been recognized by awards from the Department of Environmental Protection for four years in a row, including outstanding achievement awards (2019-2020) and excellent achievement awards (2021-2022).
2.Supporting Local Communities in Enhancing Disaster Preparedness Capabilities
In 2017, ECIC Plant II signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Shulin District to collaborate on enhancing the community’s disaster preparedness and resilience against floods. Since then, the plant has been actively assisting in related community efforts.
As a result, the Shulin District has been awarded the title of Top Ten Outstanding Communities with Outstanding Flood Preparedness in Taiwan for three years in a row.
3.Actively Hold Beach Cleanup Days, Doing Our Part in Protecting the Planet
ECIC Plant II supports the principle that “Protecting the Earth is Everyone’s Responsibility.” We have adopted the Guanyin Coast since 2018, organizing beach cleanup days every year at the Guanyin Coastal Recreation Area. Each beach cleanup event is enthusiastically participated by hundreds of employees and their families, demonstrating our commitment to advancing environmental protection through concrete actions and collectively safeguarding the marine environment.
At the beach cleanup day on October 1, 2022, we were also joined by employees from members of the Taiwan Dyestuffs and Pigments Industrial Association. 160 people participated in the event, collecting a total of 850 kg of artificial waste from the beach and restoring the coastline to its pristine condition.

Promoting Local Economic Development
Strengthening Environmental Awareness
Since our business activities could pose negative impacts on the environment in local communities, we have established an Environmental Policy that outlines our commitment, “Mitigate Environmental Risks, Towards Ecological Sustainability.” We strive to fulfill our commitments under the policy. Efforts include active water resource recycling, proper treatment and disposal of waste and pollutants, implementation of measures against climate change, and signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on disaster preparedness with the local community. We hope to protect the environment and enhance disaster resilience of the local community, at the same time raising environmental protection awareness.
Facilitating Community Engagement and Development
Through community engagement such as participating in community disaster preparedness efforts, adopting a river, holding beach cleanup days, promoting character education and more, we not only strive to promote the welfare of the community but also actively participate in community initiatives.
In 2022, Everlight Chemical participated in the “Grow a Table of Food” Program (for Koshihikari rice) by the social enterprise, Buy Directly From Farmers (BDFF). Also, 37 employees and their families participated in the program event on October 31, where we promoted our philosophy in recycling and sustainability, meanwhile supporting the local agriculture industry in Taiwan. In 2022, we purchased a total of 224 Lunar New Year gifts from the program.
